Tai Sui is a term for the stars that oppose Jupiter in its 12-year orbit. They are also personified as deities or generals who govern the fortunes of each year. There are 60 Tai Sui in total, each with a name, direction, and zodiac sign.
Tai Sui is an important concept in Chinese astrology, Feng Shui, and Taoism. People who are born in the same zodiac year as the current Tai Sui, or whose direction clashes with the Tai Sui, may face misfortunes or obstacles. To avoid this, they can pray to the Tai Sui at the beginning of the lunar year, or follow some Feng Shui tips to harmonize with the Tai Sui.
The Tai Sui of 2024 is General Li Cheng, who is located in the southeast direction. He governs the zodiac signs of Ox, Rabbit, Dragon, and Dog. People who belong to these signs should be careful of their health, wealth, career, and relationships in 2024. They should also avoid facing the southeast direction, or doing any construction work in that area.

You can say your prayers and give offerings any time during the first 15 days of the lunar new year. Some do believe the most potent days to appease Tai Sui is on the 8th and 15th days of the new year.
