It’s a story about facing down a monster – stage 4 colorectal cancer, no less – and discovering a powerful tool that helped me not just survive, but truly thrive.

From Fear to Flow: My Healing Journey with Mindfulness

Cancer. Just saying the word can send shivers down your spine. When I first got the diagnosis, fear became my constant companion. The future felt uncertain, and stress was clouding every thought. But that’s where mindfulness meditation stepped in. It became my anchor, a way to quiet the storm inside and connect with a sense of inner peace.

Here’s the thing: mindfulness isn’t about emptying your mind or achieving some zen-like state. It’s about simply observing your thoughts and emotions without judgment. Imagine them as clouds drifting across the sky – you acknowledge them, but you don’t get caught up in the rain.

Through daily meditation practice, I learned to manage the emotional rollercoaster of cancer treatment. Stress that used to keep me up at night started to melt away. I developed a deeper sense of self-compassion, understanding that my body was fighting a tough battle, and that it was okay to feel overwhelmed at times. The emotional regulation I gained was a game-changer, and it continues to be a source of strength in my life today.

Healing with Flowing Love Meditation

Many years ago, I discovered a powerful healing meditation practice called Flowing Love Meditation (FLM). During my cancer treatment, FLM became a cornerstone of my holistic approach to healing. Alright, alright, so you’re convinced mindfulness is worth a shot. But where do you even begin? The good news is, you don’t need any fancy equipment or special training. All you need is a willingness to carve out some quiet time for yourself.

Here’s a peek into my personal mindfulness practice routine:

  • Consistency is Key: Think of it like building a muscle – the more you meditate, the stronger your focus and emotional regulation become. I aim to meditate every day, but even a few minutes can make a difference.
  • Creating a Sanctuary: Find a quiet spot in your home where you won’t be interrupted. Light a candle, put on some calming music, or simply sit in comfortable silence.   • Listen with Love: When you’re in conversation with someone, give them your full attention. Listen without interrupting, and focus on understanding their perspective.
